Promotion and relegation

Promotion and relegation are real and they matter. But they describe how you did last season, not a guaranteed division number for the next one.

Every season, placement is recalculated against the actual field that season, using the same rating system — plus, from Season 2 onward, your real league results.

Most seasons this lines up closely with your promotion or relegation result, because the pool doesn’t shift dramatically between seasons. When it does — a wave of much stronger or much weaker teams registering at once — holding a team to last season’s number regardless of what that number now means would produce exactly the lopsided matches the format exists to avoid.

Division 2 means “matches at Division 2 strength,” not “the division you were in last time.”

When those two things diverge, matches win, not labels.

If your placement changes because the field around you changed, you’ll be told before the season starts, and told why. Then you choose:

  • Accept the corrected placement. Recommended, and what you’re seeded at by default.
  • Ask to stay at the division tied to your prior promotion or relegation.

If the field has shifted a lot, the second option is likely to mean lopsided matches, and you’ll be told that plainly rather than discovering it in week one.
